Spiritual Benefits of Fasting (Ramadan Rebroadcast)

[2:183] O you who believe, fasting is decreed for you, as it was decreed for those before you, that you may attain salvation.  [16:18] If you count GOD's blessings, you cannot possibly encompass them. GOD is Forgiver, Most Merciful. [13:28] They are the ones whose hearts rejoice in remembering GOD. Absolutely, by remembering GOD, the hearts rejoice. [5:7] Remember GOD's blessing upon you, and His covenant that He covenanted with you: you said, "We hear and we obey." You shall observe GOD; GOD is fully aware of the innermost thoughts. [2:152] You shall remember Me, that I may remember you, and be thankful to Me; do not be unappreciative. [14:7] Your Lord has decreed: "The more you thank Me, the more I give you." But if you turn unappreciative, then My retribution is severe. [6:141] He is the One who established gardens, trellised and untrellised, and palm trees, and crops with different tastes, and olives, and pomegranate - fruits that are similar, yet dissimilar. Eat from their fruits, and give the due alms on the day of harvest, and do not waste anything. He does not love the wasters. [7:69]  … Remember GOD's blessings, that you may succeed.
