Spiritual growth is not a do-it-yourself plan. But in that, you do have a part. You have to "create the space" in your life in which God can work and grow you. That's what the disciplines do - they don't grow you, God grows you. Bottom line, we can't make ourselves grow. We can only put ourselves in a place where God can grow us and change us. This is why we engage in spiritual disciplines.
