The A’s snatched Game 1 at Fenway 2-1 with a patience-then-pounce blueprint. Boston scratched an unearned run in the third—Carlos Narváez doubled and Rob Refsnyder scored on a center-field misplay—while rookie lefty Connelly Early again looked nasty: 5.1 innings, seven strikeouts, no walks. The A’s waited for the bullpen. In the sixth, Tyler Soderstrom came off the bench and smoked a pinch-hit RBI double off the Green Monster to score Jacob Wilson, and Brett Harris immediately followed with a rope to left to bring Soderstrom home for the lead. That two-hit combo flipped the game in about three minutes. From there, the arms suffocated Boston. Jeffrey Springs gave the A’s four innings of one-run (unearned) ball, Mitch Spence chewed up 3.2 scoreless for the win, and Hogan Harris coolly recorded the final four outs for his third save. The Red Sox went 0-for-7 with runners in scoring position, and two A’s double plays erased threats as the visitors made Fenway feel small.
