Sporting Recluses

from Sport Shack · host Paul Tonner

Paul and Glenn are back for another bumper and entertaining episode. This week we will be discussing some sportspeople from over the years who became recluses when their sporting career ended and have avoided the media and kept away from the public eye. Some of who we will discuss include: - A former fearsome West Indian fast bowler who was regarded by many as the scariest to face up to during the team’s dominance of world cricket in the 80’s. We talk about a well-known Indian journalist who spent six years and several trips to Jamaica in order to try and track him down and was saddened to hear of his decline from his glory day. - A former Aussie Rules great who excelled in the 1980’s with his spectacular marks and fine goal scoring and was called “God”. - Pete Sampras - Tony Lockett - Rugby League players such as Paul Taylor, Ewan McGrady - Former Socceroo’s Lucas Neil, Mark Viduka, Peter Wilson. - Derrick Rodman - Sportspeople who were regarded as reclusive however have came out of their shell especially in retirement eg, Darius Boyd, Sir Curtley Ambrose, George Foreman. - Dale Begg-Smith - Pele - Sidney Crosby - Bobby Fischer, the legendary and very controversial chess master. We have our Claps and Slaps for the week. We also have our Quiz on the related topic and have our segments Who Am I? and Where Are They Now? and Glenn finishes off the show with a cracking joke.
