SPOTLIGHT MONDAY: Going Beyond F.I.N.E.

On today’s Spotlight Monday, we shine the light on F.I.N.E., the acronym we have heard throughout some of our podcast interviews. When one answers the question of “how are you doing?” with “FINE”, they usually are not! As a loved one, a response of those 4 letters can be frustrating and triggering and cause communication hurdles in a relationship. They may not understand it is a safety blanket of feelings, because they don't actually know how they are feeling. This is a perfect opportunity to ask some follow up questions! The next time someone answers with F.I.N.E., slow down and take a moment to ask them how they are feeling. We can all benefit from feeling heard, validated and supported. It can change the course of someone’s day or life. And for first responder relationships, this can be the helpful tool that can make a difference.
