Spotted Lanternfly Found in Windsor | Calgary News

A deadly new pest has officially landed in Canada — the spotted lanternfly, now confirmed in Windsor. This invasive Asian insect threatens grapevines, forests, and backyard trees, with serious economic damage to the wine industry. First spotted in North America in 2014, it feeds on over 100 plant species. Adults are about an inch long with spotted wings; nymphs start black-and-white then turn red. Look for egg masses that look like muddy smears. If you spot one, take a photo, bag it, and report it to CFIA. Stay vigilant: check vehicles and gear when traveling, and never move firewood.
