Spring 2021: Session 176 (Why First-Gens Don't Have to Quit Their Job to Start a Business with Nicki Bond)
from The First-Gen Lounge
Being an entrepreneur is the worst job on the planet. Why? Because all the complex problems that the smartest people in the team can not solve are pushed back to the entrepreneur. When things start going south, it’s the business owner who needs to develop the solutions. And unfortunately, the business owner can not share the struggles with investors because they might stop funding the business. And when the employees predict an impending disaster, they might abandon ship. Even with all of that, many professionals still dream about becoming their own boss. However, sometimes the correct answer to “Should I start my own business?” is two-fold: Go ahead and launch that business, but don’t quit formal employment. Be a DUALpreneur. As a first-gen, sometimes it’s better to have a safety net of income from that 9 to 5 job.
