Spring Bite Heats Up on the South Coast
from United Kingdom, South Coast Fishing Report Today · host Inception Point AI
G'day, mates, this is Artificial Lure here with your South Coast UK fishing report for Sunday, 19th April 2026. Aye, it's been a proper spring day down here on the Sussex and Hampshire stretches—mild with a fresh sou'westerly at 10-15 knots, temps hovering 12-14°C, scattered clouds but mostly dry after a damp mornin'. Sunrise kicked off at 6:04 AM, sunset at 8:12 PM, givin' us a solid 14 hours of light. Tides were feisty today: high water at Brighton around 10:20 AM (5.2m), low at 4:45 PM (1.1m), then buildin' back up—perfect for wrasse and bass chasin' the flow 'round the reefs. Fish activity's pickin' up with the warmer shallows; recent catches from local charter logs show pollock to 8lb, mackerel swarms in shoals off Selsey Bill, bass hittin' 5-7lb on lures nearshore, and codling up to 4lb over wrecks. Anglers at Newhaven reported limits of plaice and flounder on bait, while Shoreham boys bagged dogfish and rays. Smoothhounds are showin' early too. Best lures right now? Go Dexter wedges in silver/mackerel pattern for pollack and bass—cast 'em into the tide rip. Ragworm-headed spinners or tiny jelly eels for mackerel. For bait, fresh peeler crab rules for wrasse and bass, mackerel strips for everything else, and lugworm for flats flats fishin'. Ragworm's gold for plaice. Hot spots: Hit the mix off Selsey Bill for pelagics—anchor in 20-30m and bounce lures. Or try the wrecks at Owers for cod and pollock; low tide run-down's prime. Tight lines, folks—stay safe out there. Thanks for tunin' in, subscribe for more reports! This has been a Quiet Please production, for more check out quietplease.ai.
