Spring Night of Northern Long-Eared Owls

from Nature Sound World - Luontoäänien maailma · host Nature Sound World -Luontoäänien maailma

Mid march can be still full winter. But for the northern long-eared owl it is spring. After returning from wintering areas couples settle for suitable spruce stand. Frosty and calm night inspire owls to proclaim their territory. Male’s hoot is quiet and can be heard only in short distance. Female hoot is more rough. Maybe the best heard sound is males wing clapping sound in the air. On the background ice in near lake makes low hollow sound in freezing night.
