Springboks brace themselves for Argentina backlash

Tomorrow’s (August 24) Rugby Championship Test between the Springboks and Argentina in Mendoza will be a milestone for Springbok hooker Bismarck du Plessis who will be playing in his 50th Test match. Du Plessis said that it was a privilege wearing the Springbok jersey and never did he dream that he would be a Springbok……… Springbok veteran wing Bryan Habana believes that the time has come for the Springboks to get rid of their demons after the Springboks drew 16-16 against Argentina in Mendoza last year and the fact that the Springboks have not won away from home in a southern hemisphere competition since 2009…… Habana believes that the Springboks can build on their 73-13 beating of Argentina last week in Johannesburg but also says that what happened at FNB Stadium won’t necessarily be repeated by the Springboks in Mendoza…….. Springbok loose forward Willem Alberts says that the Springboks will not be taking Argentina lightly and that they will need to replicate last week’s performance if they are to get a similar result……. Du Plessis has warned against underestimating the ability of Argentina to come back from their 73-13 defeat by the Springboks. Du Plessis believes that the Pumas will have a lot to prove in front of their home crowd and even if they are without the experience of captain Juan Martin Lobbe, lock Patricio Albacete and fullback Juan Martin Hernandez who are all injured, the Pumas will still be strong…….Journalist: Vata Ngobeni
