Springboks happy with win against Wales

from Rugby Hosted by SABC Sport

Springbok coach Heyneke Meyer waxed lyrically about his team’s 38-16 victory over Wales at King’s Park in Durban yesterday. Meyer was especially pleased with the way his team played in the first half……. Springbok captain Victor Matfield was also happy with the way his team played but said that there is still a lot that the team can improve on ahead of the second Test at Mbombela Stadium next Saturday……. Meyer though was not particularly pleased with the fact that his team leaked a try after holding Wales at bay for 69 minutes. However, Meyer did say that the five tries that his team scored were well executed and singled out centre Jan Serfontein for the performance he put in facing the experienced centre Jamie Roberts……. Wales coach Warren Gatland conceded that the Springboks were by far the better side especially in the first half and remains hopeful that the second half performance by his team will inspire them to play better next week….. Gatland expressed his disappointment at his team’s poor defensive effort and also admitted that Springbok fullback Willie Le Roux was detrimental to them stemming the tide in the first half. However Gatland commended his team for not throwing in the towel and said his team will be better for it next weekend….. Wales defence coach Sean Edwards said the team’s performance was very similar to that of previous years and tours and is confident that Wales will bounce back next week…..Journalist: Vata Ngobeni
