Springboks let down by defence against All Blacks

from Rugby Hosted by SABC Sport

Springbok coach Heyneke Meyer has lamented his side’s poor defence in their 38-27 loss to the All Blacks at Ellis Park yesterday. The loss meant that the Springboks finish second on the Castle Lager Rugby Championship log while New Zealand were crowned champions and broke a 13 year winless drought at Ellis Meyer also commended his team on the attacking rugby they played and even though the All Blacks were the better side on the day, Meyer feels that his team is closing the gap between themselves and the world champions……. Meyer says that the intention was always to go out and try the Rugby Championship and that they could have done so had their defence been more resolute and not allowed the All Blacks the easy tries……. Springbok captain Jean de Villiers feels as though the players let their coach down as there had been adequate planning to give the Springboks a chance to beat the All Blacks. De Villiers believes that the turning point in the game was when his team conceded the try before half-time and not capitalizing after stopping Ma’a Nonu from scoring the fourth try for the All Blacks...Journalist: Vata Ngobeni
