This has the same connotation as “If we can’t do it, then you wont do it either.” This is simple jealousy and ignorance. In our story, the temple is under construction but the Samaritans aren’t allowed to give assistance because of their idol worship. The Samaritans devise a sinister plan to keep the temple from being constructed. Will the Israelites ever complete the temple?
