Spurs Scout Charlie Stevens Joins UConn | Big East Basketball News

Charlie Stevens, the Spurs’ longtime grassroots scouting director who rose through the ranks after playing Division III hoops, is leaving San Antonio to become UConn’s new general manager — a move that signals a major shift in college basketball’s talent pipeline. Stevens, originally from the Bronx and a product of hustle and sacrifice, helped shape the Spurs’ future around Victor Wembanyama before now bringing his NBA scouting acumen to Storrs. With UConn increasingly reliant on recruiting and the transfer portal, Stevens will spearhead identifying elite high school talent — a role that mirrors his rapid ascent in the NBA front office. His departure follows another key loss: assistant coach Sean Sweeney, who joined Orlando. The Spurs’ front office continues to evolve as they build for the future, while Stevens takes his proven scouting eye to the next frontier.
