JPMorgan picks up the remains of First Republic Bank after authorities seize control of the regional lender. It is the second-largest U.S. bank failure in history. JPMorgan CEO Jamie Dimon says his bank answered the government’s call and played down any suggestions of contagion in the sector. HSBC first quarter profits almost triple due to higher rates.
