[§196] Rev 12:3: The Sign of the Red Dragon [Lucifer]

This podcast explains and interprets the images and symbols used by John in Revelation 12:3 to describe Lucifer and his rebellious followers in the premortal existence as another wonder or sign in heaven. The great red dragon in this verse symbolizes Lucifer at the time of the grand council in heaven. The Dragon is identified as another sign in heaven. The first sign in heaven is the image of a woman representing the premortal church of God in Revelation 12:1. She was glorious and beautiful, but the Dragon is red in color to identify his destructive and bloodthirsty character. The symbol is dynamic and is used by John in subsequent verses to identify Satan’s power and influence on earth.Scholars often misinterpret the Dragon in Revelation 12:4 as a symbol for the ancient Roman empire. Rome is merely an earthly likeness of Lucifer's presence in the premortal existence. The Dragon has seven heads and seven crowns upon those heads. These images represent Lucifer’s power and regal authority that he once had before he rebelled during the grand council.The image of the great red dragon also had 10 horns. Horns represent power. The number ten (10) represents the whole of a part or part of a whole. Thus, Satan had incredible power in premortality, but he did not have the fulness or whole of God's power.
