[§279] Rev 16:21: An Exceedingly Great Hail Falls on Men
This podcast explains the relationship between the great earthquake identified by John in Revelation 16:18-20 and the great hailstorm that he describes in Revelation 16:21. Using the flood in the days of Noah as a model, type, and foreshadow, I theorize in this podcast that that the hailstones during the greatest earthquake of all time will come as a result of the rapid changes in the earth’s topography that will reunite the western and eastern hemispheres that were separated during the universal flood. Dr. Walt Brown’s “hydroplate theory” postulates that a great deal of hail and freezing rain fell at the time of the flood and this serves as a theoretical model for what will occur during the seventh Vial Plague as well. Revelation 16:21 states that “there fell upon men a great hail out of heaven, every stone about the weight of a talent: and men blasphemed God because of the plague of the hail; for the plague thereof was exceeding great.” Although geologic forces can explain the presence of hail during the greatest earthquake of all time, the hailstones will surgically fall upon wicked people as a judgment from God. The magnitude of God’s judgment is reflected by the weight of the hailstones which John identifies as one talent each. A talent could be anything between 50 and 100 pounds. People afflicted by this final great plague of hail‒probably mingled with blood and fire‒will not repent. Instead, they will curse God and blaspheme his name because they know he is the source of this judgment and their punishment. Their death by hailstone is the great antitype for the Mosaic law which required people to be stoned to death if they cursed and blasphemed God.
