[§284] Rev 17:6: The Great Whore Is Drunk with the Blood of Saints
This podcast explains the imagery and symbolism used by John in Revelation 17:6-7, which states: “I saw the woman drunken with the blood of the saints, and with the blood of the martyrs of Jesus: and when I saw her, I wondered with great admiration. And the angel said unto me, Wherefore didst thou marvel? I will tell thee the mystery of the woman, and of the beast that carrieth her, which hath the seven heads and ten horns.” The woman drunken with the blood of the saints and martyrs is the Great Whore of false religion, also known as Babylon the Great and the mother of harlots and abominations. (Rev 17:5) Thousands of Christians were martyred during the ancient Roman Empire, including “saints” who were tortured and killed as heretics during the middle and dark ages, as well as Protestant reformers who were subjected to torture and death during the Catholic inquisitions. All these persecutions and murders foreshadow the latter-day murder and killing of saints in the modern era, by the Great Whore primarily during the last 3½ years of the Great Tribulation before the Second Coming. When John’s angelic guide sees that John is astonished by the bloodlust of the Great Whore, he promises to tell John about the mystery and history of the woman responsible for the murders of saints during the ancient Roman Empire, and who subsequently evolves into and becomes the Great Whore drunken with the blood of saints in the last days.
