In the state of California there is an award, called the Hiram award, that can be given out to one Mason each year in each lodge. This award is not "won", the recipient is determined by the lodge and is usually that unsung hero. It is for the Mason who comes down on odd days and does the gardening, or stays late to do the dishes, or is the one who knows how to repair everything and anything in the lodge.
