ΕΠΙΣΤΟΛΗ Αρ. 4 Περί των φόβων του θανάτου  Όπου ο Σενέκας καταπιάνεται με το πάντα επίκαιρο και στρυφνό  θέμα του θανάτου, και των φόβων που αυτός προκαλεί στους ανθρώπους.  Έτσι, αφού αναφέρει το γνωστό στωικό επιχείρημα “Ο θάνατος έρχεται· όμως θα έπρεπε να τον φοβάσαι μόνο αν μπορούσε να μείνει μαζί σου για πολύ” προχωρά στην πρόταση της συμφιλίωσης με την απώλεια, το συντομότερο δυνατό: “Γι’ αυτό, κάνε τη ζωή σου ευχάριστη, με το να διώξεις κάθε ανησυχία για αυτήν. Κανένα καλό πράγμα δεν μπορεί να κάνει τον κάτοχό του ευτυχισμένο, εκτός αν το μυαλό του συμφιλιωθεί με την πιθανότητα της απώλειας. Τίποτα δεν χάνεται με λιγότερη δυσφορία από αυτό που, όταν το χάσεις, δεν σου λείπει.” Και πάντα μας θυμίζει ότι ο θάνατος η  αναπόφευκτη κατάληξή μας, ένα γεγονός που όμως μας είναι γνωστό από την πρώτη στιγμή της ζωής μας. “Γιατί εξαπατάς οικειοθελώς τον εαυτό σου, αν θεωρείς ότι για πρώτη φορά τώρα θα μάθεις ποια είναι η μοίρα σου, για την οποία κοπιάζεις εδώ και καιρό.
