Ända sedan 1895 har de kommuner som idag utgör Borlänge kommun varit platser där framtiden manifesterats om och om igen.Staden har snabbfotat sig själv genom 1900-talet. När Domnarvets järnverk växte till pekades den lilla Borlänge by intill järnvägsstationen ut som en plats för en rutnätsplan. Där börjar Borlänges moderna historia. Modernare än det mesta i Sverige. Vi har åkt till en av Sveriges finaste trädgårdsstäder, Bergslagsbyn, ett kapell av Sigurd Lewerentz där klockstapeln fick byborna att rasa, ett av funktionalismens första hus, en Konsum på Sveatorget, ett kommunhus som ser ut som ett litet Versaiile från 1930-talet. Vi har följt kooperationen genom Borlänge, och sett en berättelse om hur den stora handeln först flyttar in i staden, sedan försvinner ut till Cupolen och nu senast till det nyligen invigda Ikea.
