Standing Witness

This message was shared on 07/28/24 at First Christian Church in Wilmington, Illinois. Ryan delivers an inspiring sermon highlighting the significance of obedience to God and unity amongst believers. He begins by stating that obedience to God should emanate from a heart fully committed to Him. It's this kind of obedience that should be cultivated among believers, along with authentic unity, where everyone gathers to learn from God's words and grows together in their faith journey. He thanks the congregants for their collective dedication and lauds them for being a unique community willingly involved in this collective journey. Pastor Ryan then dissects the book of Joshua, tying it in with the central theme of the sermon. He sheds light on Joshua's leadership during the Israelites' transformation from being a nomadic tribe to settling down in Canaan. Notably, he hones in on Joshua's farewell tour, where Joshua offers his final words of wisdom to the twelve tribes. A specific episode from Joshua 22 is then explored where a misunderstanding arises among the western and eastern tribes over the building of an altar. This leads to a possible war between them; however, through proper delegation and communication, the eastern tribes clarify that the altar symbolizes their unity and honors God, defusing the potential conflict. Drawing parallels to the modern day, Pastor Ryan explicates the importance of being mindful of perceptions and fostering understanding in relationships.
