Hello and welcome to holodeck text the show on film damage where we talk about Star Trek. I'm Mike. I'm Max Oh my gosh, this meeting is being recorded Yeah, it's been so long since we've done this But the first time the new zoom feature of the announcement that the meeting is being recorded came up for me It was so loud that like my heart is racing now like I'm like it fight or flight response in this moment Screamed at me this meeting is being recorded. That's how long it's been They just want you to stay on your toes.

I guess Yeah, so it has been a while since we've had an episode it's been well since September of 2021 and Yeah, we just kind of lost track of stuff, you know we're busy and everything and you know, they had the Star Trek mission in Chicago convention in Chicago last weekend and I ran into Amy Nelson and she's like how come you guys haven't recorded and I'm like Yeah, we've been busy and she's like you did Picard season one and then you did like one episode of lower decks And then that was it, you know, where's your commentary for Picard and I'm like I Will do it. We'll do it. So yeah, but we're not doing that right now We're gonna finish up lower decks right now, you know and try to try to you know get some of the stuff now I mean Picard has been rolling around along and you know, there's been a lot of time travel in this season There's been a lot of time travel takes this this season and that's something that we definitely have to cover But it's the type of thing where things are changing so quickly that at this point It really seems with only three episodes left that we should just wait until the end of the season and do one Episode of elementary temporal mechanics where we cover the whole thing right because then we can see exactly where it's going and everything Unless it like just like rolls right into a cliffhanger for season three and they're like, oh, yeah It's all gonna be explained in season three or possibly the movie that might happen Yeah, I don't think that's gonna happen, but we'll see we'll see so In the meantime, we are going to do some commentaries for you know things like lower decks and then you know like one strange new world Starts up I think it makes sense to to do some commentaries on those and everything and and all that stuff so you know Star Trek now It just keeps on going it keeps on going and There was a lot of stuff which you know was was going last weekend in Chicago, you know Yes, I went because I'm in Chicago and probably gonna go anyway. Yeah, I'm trying to get you to go But you were like no, that's a pandemic.

It's still happening I'm not going to people got to take this thing seriously or nothing's gonna be fun Yeah, no, I know what you mean. I know what you mean, but you know get your a KM95 mask on and you know, it's all good Enough, you know, I need like a full 12 monkeys like environment suit, you know I need to feel completely secure You know and like when I get back to my home base, I need to be like fully firehosed down So that you could do that with like cosplay, you know, like you could do like the the EV suits from Star Trek first contact, you know I'm into the idea. It's just you know, I don't have the time to put all the effort into a into like a completely film accurate recreation of the environment suit used in Star Trek to the Rathcon by a by Chekhov Yeah, I know if you saw this but Nicholas Meyer has been posting little videos on Twitter Talking about random things and he posted one the other day where he's like should Spock have stayed dead And he's like, you know, I mean at the time I was like shock just box should definitely be dead But like I see and he starts talking about like Henry the fourth and there's like there is a Henry the fourth part too And Falstaff shows up and everything's and you know, like the characters are blah blah blah and and then he ends it by saying He's like so commercially clearly Spock should have lived in Star Trek probably You know, wouldn't be what it is today if they didn't bring Spock back And then he ends it by saying and I think this is something which he said on numerous occasions because when I googled it to see if he was quoting someone The quote was attributed to him But he said The audience may be stupid, but they're never wrong. So there you go Nicholas Meyer.

Yes Okay, all right. Well, so okay, so some things that I saw at Star Trek mission Chicago Yeah, the lower decks panel. Well, I guess we should say that for the end the the strange new worlds panel, okay Yeah, so they had like the cast up there, you know, they had you know, Anton Mount and Rebecca Romaine and the Ethan Peck and then Celia Gooding. I think your name is she's the new Ughura and then they had they had Henry Alonzo Myers Myers the the co-show runner along with the cubic Oldsman The kid goes and was supposed to be there.

He didn't show up for whatever reason unfortunate But they were like because my whole thing was like, okay, this show is dropping in like three weeks, right? This is you want to make this a huge thing you show us the first episode Why would I why would you not show us the first episode and Anson Mount? I don't know so Anson Mount gets out on stage and he's like now you guys but and you know the fans and blah blah blah and we're really Excited about this and we have something special for you We have for you. You will be the very first audience to see the very first Bridge scene from strange new worlds and everyone's like yeah, and I'm like the The very first bridge scene, okay, all right.

They showed us the very first bridge scene and you know, it's cool Whatever, they're like oh, it's the bridge of the Enterprise and they're like that's you who are you? Oh, you're a crew member. Oh, you're supposed to be a very good pilot. Oh, uhura You're the genius who speaks like 37 languages and she's like yeah, you know stuff like that and it's like okay That was cool.

Not as cool as watching the entire first episode But what can you do you know, but you know they did they did you know There wasn't a lot that they were able to say and anytime anyone asked them a question about anything They would like look over at Henry Alonso Myers and be like can we talk about that and he'd be like no no we can't That's how it goes, you know, but you know someone was like well We'll see you know we're seeing all these strange new worlds, you know the original series you had like you know God like beings and time travel and all the rest of it are we gonna see all those things and they're like yes Yes, we will see all those things there will be time travel there will be God like beings there will be everything So I saw that they've cast James T Kirk Yes, yes that they revealed because someone took a paparazzi photo of a guy walking around and they're like Character looks like that could be James T Kirk and they're like now announcing this guy from the vampire diaries is going to be James T Kirk in season two Okay, now in production. So here's the thing. I'm not I'm from a spider's alright Like I don't I don't have a feeling against it but I'm not sure what it means and it's freaking me out but like the season two of strange new worlds will be Captain James T Kirk Captain of the USS Enterprise on a five-year mission to explore strange new worlds to cut new life and That's what everyone's freaking out about they're like what the fuck I wanted a pike show What's this fucking Kirk shit? We already had fucking Kirk shit, and I'm like dudes calm down like clearly to me anyway I mean I never got that impression my impression was you know They're doing their thing captain pikes on you know the enterprise doing his thing and then they're like oh We've met up with you know the farrogate or whatever ship and this dude, you know wants to beam on board to help out What's his name Kirk Kirk?

Oh, that's weird and then he comes on board and he's you know whatever and he's doing his thing And he's like you know I'm sure like the last episode with him is gonna end with him like looking at the bridge and saying like I really dig this ship Be cool to be captain of it someday wouldn't it and then like he leaves you know I mean he I think they said he's gonna be a guest star I really you know my favorite part is like the picture the paparazzi picture of him was with the character Laan Nune and sing and Brandon Matala posted on Twitter He's like oh, I love that scene and space seed where Kirk's like con Nune and sing that's weird I used to work with someone named Laan Nune and sing what are the odds you know Like I'm not like angry about this. I'm not upset that like if the show is like James Kirk is captain the enterprise I'm not angry about that what I am is flummoxed by the idea that we've got here Like this is such a weird moment in this thing There's never been a thing like this this is like if the Golden Girls spin-offs At that at some point established like like what were the kids what were the girls like before they met when they were kids And then oh man It wouldn't be cool if we saw them like move in together into the same house And it's like oh, you know We should see there should be a show about Blanche and her husband whatever whatever his name was and like the like at the end of that Show the girls move in and they're like okay The next spin-off is is basically the exact same premise as the Golden Girls But everyone's played by new people and we're going back to the Golden Girls format It's not a single camera anymore. We're going back to the multi-cam like that's that is the level of bananas. This is Crazy if they did that but this is it's like so it's like what they've done That is what they've done here It's it's so this is like 22.59.

It's like the year after discovery season two, right and then you know the thing okay, so So so it's the year after season two of discovery It's like seven years before season one of the original series, you know, so I mean where does where no man is coming for But whatever it's like some time before the original series Yeah Also just to put this into context because I find it to be kind of like fascinating and able to wrap your head around whatever But it takes place the same year as into darkness for whatever that's worth so You're unaccounted for in Golden Girls continuity So yeah, if you wanted to set like two or three seasons of a new show in that period you could totally get away with it Apparently, yeah, I mean yeah I don't know I mean look the whole reason why this show exists they weren't planning on making this show right there They were all in on section 31 and then the fans were like give us a pike show give us a pike show And then they're like I guess it would be dumb of us not to do this because the fans are wrong It's maybe stupid, but they're never wrong, you know So they might be wrong on this one. We'll see we'll see I mean here's my take on it in general from the stuff that I've seen like Well, I guess here's the other thing right well I get my take on it is this looks like the most sand fan services show that Star Trek has ever done and my god has Star Trek done some fan service right I Can't you say it I can't say but I consider myself pretty like super fan level right like I see all of these shows Yeah, I've read one of these movies I got a hot takes for days, you know like like start the clock I will outlast it with my hot takes I know and I'm not really getting anything from this You know, but you're looking for something different right you're not looking for the nostalgia You're not you don't want to see you know Spock you know hanging out with with you know bones or whatever for you know Just the sake of whatever I mean to me the most fan service you show this to show this like most like yeah This is by the way me is lower decks Yeah, and but that's kind of different because it's like commenting on stuff right like I mean And we'll talk I mean we'll see in like these these episodes here, you know that that it does that but It's a different thing like it's a commentary It's you know, whereas this is like you liked the enterprise well guess what you're gonna get the enterprise You like con well guess what you're gonna get cons Nice or whatever she is nobody knows really Okay, they said they said she is really you know because at first they were like well on noon in sing like if she related to con I'm like let's hope she's not that's something never mentioned con once it's just like my name is just a lot Nune and sing what you want to do about it, you know if there's if Nune and sing is like the 23rd century's like Smith Yeah, but no they said yes, she is related to con so that'll be a fun to part her But you know the fact that who is on the show the fact that chapel is on the show It's like all that stuff is like okay fine, you know, I mean I'm not saying that look, you know I think it's great that they're gonna actually flesh out those characters who basically you know It didn't have anything to do on the original series really Their role was essentially their job and their job was essentially occupied a seat Yeah, I mean that's it's like literally what they talk about with Sigourney Weaver's character in galaxy quest, you know But like the idea of like, you know, oh and who her is there? Oh and chapels there. Oh and Dr.

Ambenga's there right which is another one which is weird to me because He says in the new trailer I'm the chief medical officer on the flagship of the fleet and it's like that's really cool except I just watched the first episode that he's in the original series and he's not the chief officer chief medical officer anymore He's like second in command so and I mean Presumably they'll deal with this presumably is not just like oh well. We got bones now So sorry you're being demoted, but how come he's not the chief medical officer on the flagship of the fleet anymore? That seems weird. Well, maybe he did something, you know Like they didn't want to fire him, but they wanted to like make sure that he understood that he couldn't do that again I mean, I'm sure what's gonna happen.

It will be it'll be a it'll be a probably one of the later episodes of the series, right? But there will be some conflict and there will be probably the prime directive will be involved shooting court scene in the closet somewhere He'll be he'll be saving a bunch of people who he's like I can save them and they're like we're not allowed to and he's like fuck You I'm gonna save him anyway, and they're like You're like a court or scene into his arm and he's like yeah Yeah, and then and then they're like you know, you shouldn't have saved those people and he'll be like Cocktail of court or scene. Yeah, I did but I got it. Yeah, I would and I would do it again And they're like well, you know what we're demoting you you're now second in command of this thing and he's like It's worth it.

That's it spoilers for season three episode 10 of Star Trek strange new worlds But that's gotta be how it plays out spoilers. They are in incredibly complicated canon Enviro, but it's a continuity minefield Yeah, but like it's also a puzzle game like the puzzle game of that writers room. I think is remarkable Like they've got a slot so many pieces into place and also make an entertaining show And then also be like, you know, and then also got to be like oh, yeah, we can't talk about discovery at all Right Spock's gotta be like oh, oh, never heard of anything like that before there is this one time I was hanging out with my sit. I mean this this random person and yeah What rent no, there's no random person can't even talk about it like they didn't exist.

Yeah Can't like swap the names around he can't be like oh, I want to do a mushroom guy He was secreted mushrooms and like maybe I know I know not sure about that But you know Well, here's the thing about strange new worlds though, right? So we all went to that panel and we all saw the first bridge scene and really didn't get much else out of it You saw the first bridge scene? Did I did I saw it dude? Is it like the bridge that we've seen?

Yeah, pretty much all right. They walk on to it and they're like oh shit It's the bridge and then that was it So after that panel In one of the smaller rooms like in the big room Kate will grew it was doing like a book signing like a book reading and a book signing and it's like that's cool But in one of the smaller rooms upstairs There was the costume designer for strange new worlds who was talking about the costumes, right? And they had the costumes on display and everything they're very cool But she's up there and she starts showing artwork slides and everything and let me tell you there were no producers in that room to tell her no So I want to say that my wife's like you can't post this stuff on Twitter because you'll get her in trouble But so we got to see what the gorga be wearing Didn't see any gorg but like there was one scene there the biggest one was I can't believe that nobody has reported on this Like track movie track court nobody has said this because I don't think they had anyone in the room but she's like She's talking about like a scene which is in the trailer and she's like if you look at the back of this picture You can see a guy standing in a blue box because that is someone who is going to be like beaming down with the beaming Down effect and that person is blank and everyone's like oh Shit You could like hear it in the room like this and like she flat outside like I don't really know anything about Star Trek You know like she was like the assistant on discovery and then she got this job because you know She worked her way up or whatever, but she's not like a lifelong Star Trek fan So she has no idea who blank is but for anyone in you know the world of Star Trek It's like shit so blanks gonna be on this show I wasn't at this thing and you're saying so what if you just write it down and hold up the cameras that I can see it So that we'll both have a secret ever listener. It'll be like well What does he look again?

I'm not gonna say it out loud like I don't have a piece of paper right here But I'll just tell it to you and then cut it out. Okay cool. Okay. Yeah, I remember who that is I Don't know why that's significant though.

Yeah, so there was that you know there's that as she was showing a lot of pictures I mean it was cool, you know whatever it had the costumes on display There was a whole thing where like they had like the these character posters and for in benga and Spock It had their first names and they were like names from the books and people are like oh shit They're bringing in because you know that's what they did with the number one right for first name is Una which is you know from the books and everything like that and Then like the day late day after it does it's it's cute yes, and it's also it's a reference to Una McCormick who Wrote a number of the books and whatever anyway, so they're keeping that right But then like people are like oh my god this name like someone gave Spock a name in a book in like 1983 And now here it is it's canon and then like the next day they were like oh oh oh sorry sorry sorry sorry No, that was a mistake They will have first names But that's not them and then they took down the posters and the next day they put up new posters that didn't have the first names on them And it's like huh do you think that's the case or do you think that is the case and they were going to reveal it at some other Time or something like that. I don't know whatever Who cares about these first names? Yeah, I don't know. Yeah, no one's gonna sing like if they're like if they if there's a music sting under Spock's first name I'm gonna for a second.

Yep. Yeah Yeah, I mean he doesn't people are like well he doesn't have a first name But there is episode of the original series where someone's like you have a first name and he's like yeah But you can't pronounce it so yeah But yeah, so there's that you know and then they did the Picard panel that was kind of lame Prodigy panel was okay. They showed What I think is the first scene from the next half season where you see like the christening of the protostar, you know like the You know wine bottle champagne bottle hits on the thing and then they like go into like the little like observation room or whatever Where people are all clapping and stuff and she co-tays like oh man This is gonna be awesome and Jane way is like I don't understand why you want to go back to the Delta quadrant Didn't we spend enough time there and he's like yeah, but now I have like the means of getting back So it's not really a big deal and she's like okay But if you ever get into trouble give me a call and then you hear Jane way from somewhere else Say like computer freeze program and everything freezes and then you know admiral Jane way from now or whatever steps in and she's like Why didn't you call me? You know and then some random person comes in and she's like Admiral we found them whatever and she's like okay Let's go get him and then she like flies off to go find the protostar So you know a little quick tease but kind of cool so there's that and then and then and then there was a lower Ex panel and at the lower decks panel, which was awesome I mean clearly the best panel obviously Mike McMahon was there they brought in the cast all of them wearing that They were all in cosplay as their characters, which was great and You know did a bunch of shit made a bunch of jokes and then they showed the Trailer for season three which is up online, which is basically just dialogue and talking about like oh the you know captain is in You know it's being court martial or whatever and then you see the ship in dry dock And then they're like oh we're gonna steal the Cerritos.

So they're gonna steal the Cerritos to go save the captain Classic classic and then they showed a cold open from a later episode from the season where they're playing this like Dungeons and Dragons style game with a video General Martok like tell that is like the dungeon master or whatever kind of thing very similar to actually the the VHS Star Trek the next generation board game with Gauron. I'm assuming it was a reference to that, but yeah, it sounds like a reference to that You know it is a little heart. It's pretty good. It's pretty good.

I like it So lower decks lower decks is coming back Little decks is coming back. Yeah, should we watch this thing? Let's watch this thing. Okay So this is season two episode two we already did season two episode one So we'll start at about five seconds in after the CBS logo face of black does that work for you?

Yeah, all right, then if you're ready we will start it up in three two one start Okay shot his eyes open. There's the ship and there's She's so salt. Yeah It's the boimler free Cerritos Cerritos I could have sworn this started with them and oh no that was the last episode we started them See it's been so long. It's been so long the last episode is where they're doing this This is that yes, or they have the sonic shower the co-ed sonic shower makes sense.

Yeah, we have seen sonic showers Before there was there was one very quickly in Voyager. I remember Well, yeah, I feel like we've seen people get into the sonic shower Mm-hmm. I don't think we've ever seen the effect like this before Do you think it would be as refreshing as a water shower? I mean I don't think so but like it must be somehow like you must feel cleaner So yeah, I mean something remarkable so it cleans you with with sound but I guess I mean there's no reason why they can't also provide like heat for example, right?

Yeah Like honestly like now that I'm thinking about it Like the first thing that pops into my head is like you get into a little booth You turn it on and then it screams this meeting is being recorded at you so loud that all the the oil and dirt on your body Just flee from you so like now thinking about it yet checks out. This seems to seem legit tech. Okay. All right well Yeah, here is the opening oh that is one other thing which isn't so they showed us the opening and everything and It appears that season three will be in 2.3 9 to 1.

I don't know why well I mean people people love that widescreen people love that That full wide frame. I guess because cinematic qualities So okay, they've got a collector here and obviously there are a lot of references here Which are you know obviously that's what you're expecting and everything it is kind of weird that like all of the stuff came from like episodes of next generation, but you know, it's okay, okay, what can you do? Well, I mean like this is this is that show where we have to accept that it is both an incredibly Galaxy in a very small world mm-hmm There was a guy dressed as a the counselor there he Had a whole mask made of like a material Okay, seems like that person could just roll from that kind to another one without But that they did maybe they did maybe they did and here we have the the new security chief I guess who is a What are they what are they called the Darma Tomarian? Yeah, Keshan Yeah, and and yeah, I mean we'll get to it obviously next episode But you know in the last commentary that we did I was like oh, maybe you know that guy is gonna be voiced by the guy who voices You know the security chief in season one and you were like now that I just gonna bring the security chief back Yeah, I was like what?

Right? Yeah, I don't know why that was a weird thing to think I Guess because they killed him, you know, they just flat out killed him Like I was like yeah, this checks out. This is the same like what they would do No, but that was great I mean they did in such a great way because it was just so nonchalant and whatever but So so this stuff on the Titan. I love it I love how the lighting and everything is is more reminiscent of like the next gen movies You know like it looks like the Enterprise E not the Enterprise D and stuff like that Because it is like the you know action-packed ship, right?

It's not the boring ship. So Makes sense. Yeah Okay, so lots and lots and lots of references here These like alien collector guys who have all kinds of relics. We've seen so many of these Over the course of Star Trek history.

They have so much earth garbage Mm-hmm like so much earth garbage like it's crazy how often we're dealing with people who have like trash from Earth's history And I always think I barely care about this stuff. Yeah, yeah It's basically like baseball cards. That's trash. Let's just throw that away You think that like there'd be like Ferengi stuff or whatever, right?

You'd think there'd be all kinds of stuff I bet the trill got some some dope artifacts, you know, yeah, yeah No, I like the packlets have some fun educational comic strips, you know Yeah, like how not to launch yourself out of an airlock. I bet there's a good a good one of those I don't think I'd want to read it. I would love to read a series of educational comic strips made for packlets by packlets Alright, so I mean we over if you look in the background there you have what looks like very similar to an air Jordan one I think the first first episode that or first a sorry shoe that Michael Jordan wore technically not but you know whatever that's kind of cool the pilot shoe Yeah Klingon sex helmet. Do you think that's the The torpedo that Spock was in probably right?

No, I think that torpedo was lost to the the Genesis Explosion it all exploded didn't it? Yeah, I guess you're right. Yeah, yeah Yeah, I don't think there are only any of us any of us left That might have been for like some other random character that died in space. I mean Condonian sings niece-in-law, maybe I don't know That could be Yeah, so they're gonna train train change him into a puppet which is cute Surprise they didn't sell the puppet at the convention because they did have the Jordy bear, which is cool I do have your Jordy bear here.

Awesome. Thank you Yeah, I would I would have loved to have a little plush case on he would need to be like a beanie baby type thing though, you know because he's like He's got a little squish, but he's not super plush and like you gotta be able to puppeteer him I'm not sure how the engineering of that head would work seems complicated. Maybe that's why just the engineering of a mass-produced Well, I think you just you put like your middle fingers up the head and then you know, you're you're your thumb and you're pinky in the arms And then that's it Well, I mean that the actual head engineering like that sort of squishy exterior, but it still has to be puppeteerable I think I think I think you can only puppeteer it so much as like moving it like back and forth like that sort of thing I don't know, but I don't think you're gonna be able to move them out or anything like that Can you move the mouth? No, that's not good.

It's gotta be on the mouth. I'd be upset if I got a patient on top I couldn't move the mouth so so this Titan stuff I mean one of the things which is kind of disappointing the most disappointing thing is that There's no Troy, right? Why do we not see Troy? But the crew is all new like I know there's like a series of Titan books with like different, you know Titan characters most notably Tuvak right why wouldn't you bring on that stuff?

I mean, it's not like these are any like fleshed out characters or whatever. It's like why not just bring in the stuff in the books I think because then you got to bring it all. I mean they're bringing a lot of it already. I Mean even the design of the ship But wasn't that on like book covers I mean it was on book covers.

Yeah, that far and then don't go any further with their understanding of these things But I mean Tuvak is you know a beloved character. I mean, I mean if you're looking for things They were like You know, they were asking about stuff like, you know, they're becoming those from other people didn't he's like yes And then someone was like so we saw like salamanders, right? But we didn't see like the lizard babies the actual lizard babies And they're like they're still out there somewhere. Do you think we will see the lizard babies at some point?

I'm like McMahon He was trying so hard to play a cool. He's like I can't tell you When when or where we might see the lizard babies, but I mean yeah, obviously at some point We're gonna see the lizard babies, you know 100% they will be Crazy thing that happened Speaking crazy things that happened. There's the alternate Spock Spock to or whatever from the infinite Vulcan the episode of the animated series Yeah, which was written by Walter Kneig and at the convention apparently someone asked Walter Kneig like did you know that they put your giant Spock in an episode of Overdex he's like really I had no idea Good stuff And you know like people have you know, it's not that they're doing a billion, you know Star Trek shows and apparently if the fans want something they'll give them exactly what they want with the strange new world So, you know people are just asking for whatever they want And of course the thing that everyone's asking for now is a Titan show with Riker, you know and Troy and it's like yeah Yeah, Titan show, but oh, you know, look here's the thing at first I was like why you know and and I couldn't care less but after seeing these episodes of lower decks I'm like yes I do want a Titan show and it needs to be an animated comedy it needs to be a spin-off of this that would be cool I will watch that, you know Why not why not The why not for a lot of these things is mystifying like the why do it is also sometimes equally as mystifying I mean, I'm definitely thinking like I get why they're doing lower decks and I don't I don't quite get what strange new worlds is I'm not sure I understand what discoveries do it now Discovery has gotten to a weird place. I mean discovery is just kind of to me off the rails at this point I mean, I don't know I Really really loved what they were doing in season one in particular and ever since then it's kind of like just taking the slow decline And I don't know what That was pretty cool I mean the big thing that they kept on Reiterating with strange new worlds is that it will be episodic every episode will tell the story they're going to a different planet They're like such an interesting choice.

They're like the characters will be Will grow and change they're like if you know if Edith Keeler dies in episode five Then Kirk will still be upset about it in episode six, you know like that is there, but it's not gonna be like a season long arc or anything Do you remember that meme that was going around in the Trek Twitter community though? Is this what Star Trek has become? Yes Yes, I've been thinking about that since like the strange new world stuff started coming out because That's the all I can think about like is this what Star Trek has become exactly the same as it always was Yeah, like is this one time to become the original series. I don't know why people want that You know, I don't get it myself.

I mean that being said I mean that's the thing and I don't think that I miss they said multi-camera sitcom with all Klingon characters Guys, I'm into it. I love that For all of the stuff with strange new worlds where I'm like, why are we doing this? Why are we doing this exact you know and this is you know kind of just rolling my I mean granted like you know Star Trek 9 might you know one of my all-time faves like in that I Certainly do roll my eyes at the sequence where everybody gets into place exactly where they should be through whatever You know, oh this person is killed well, I guess McCoy is the doctor now, you know, oh look we found Scotty on a planet I guess he's our engineer now, you know, I mean just like that stuff like it really does R2 d2 Some people love them some people want to kill themselves after seeing them And I do feel that that's what strange new worlds is going to be that being said if if you look past that and just look at like What they're doing on strange new worlds like as a show telling a story kind of thing I will say that it does look really good like in terms of like the production value and everything like that I feel like this is a step up from pretty much all the other shows that they're doing now like they really do seem to have like the best It looks like you know, if they were to do what they are kind of sort of Elliptically kind of doing like to like just take an original series episode and just do it Big like go go big with it go wide get crazy like let's just do like the cage 100% ground up line for line and let's absolutely kill it Let's make a feature length the cage go all out with it and like if they did that I would be like I don't know how to feel about this because on the one hand what a stupid thing to do and on the other hand Yes, let's do this. I think that's what we're gonna get so we shall see all right, so they I Think they did a good job here Because they they remind everyone about Thomas Riker, right?

And at first like if they were to just be like oh like this thing that happens to him You'd be like really but they're like oh that gives me a good idea We can do it that way and then the same thing happens that works and this is I mean it's so Bizarre and such a weird thing to try to wrap your head around but It works right No, it's it's it's absolutely fantastic. It works great. I love the whole the whole thing is incredible The the introduction of the second play more like I was like that's obviously what they're gonna do They're gonna do some version of that and then like he just said yeah, we're good. We did that's what we did There are two of us.

I guess here's the question which one Said I should be the one to go the first one of the second one In my initial viewing of this I believed the the person who said I should be the one to go was the first one I think you're right. I think that they've tried to make it less clear, but I think that that was obviously the case Yeah, it seems to make sense Whatever whatever happened when in those few seconds down on that planet changed him now See here's another thing right you do the Titan spin-off You can still have boimler on the show right yeah Come on guys. Let's do this He'd have two shows where he's on it one where he's the main character and the other one where he's a sort of a peripheral Occasionally in the background once in a while says yes, yes captain Yeah, I Wish I guess I'm not surprised anymore Like I really did think when they ended season one that there it would be like halfway through the season before Boimler returns, you know, but I don't know why you thought it was clearly gonna be one of us But I wish they would have kept it for longer, but whatever is fine if they explain the the case of the Extra pips yes if being a piece of corn It's good explanation is any I guess I mean, I mean, I mean, I mean I don't think I've ever noticed The wrong number of pips I know it's like a common thing that people love pointing out I am never aware of what people are wearing enough to notice that now when I was a kid I was like just fascinated by by that stuff all the all the costume stuff and everything it just was like oh I look at that. Oh, he's this he's a den junior grade whatever Yeah, never cared never cared even a light a little bit like the tiniest sliver of interest and In the various ranks of characters like honestly, I'm still fuzzy on who can give orders to whom just gotta look at the pips Like a hassle got my glasses on to do that.

Mm-hmm. I ain't got no pips So I hope we get a lot more This crazy language Mm-hmm. I want so much more people love it. Yeah All right more quotable statements Yeah So that is it for Star Trek lower decks season two episode two Pretty good, right?

It's just still working for me. I like it a lot. I think that I think the show's great I think our ducks killing it one percent. We're getting a season three and a season four.

So that's good. Mm-hmm. Yeah, so um, yeah That's that's cool. Um Lots of Star Trek on the horizon and lots lots for us to get caught up on like in addition to all those shows We also got the Star Trek motion picture directors edition No, I did check out some stuff To check to see what they did Yeah, they fixed it.

They fixed the shot the way you were worried about yeah, it absolutely drove me crazy when I first saw that and I I I mean it was infuriating and when I when they when they dropped this new version I was like did they fix it and they did Wow Congratulations, so does it look great, but it is better. Yeah, yeah They showed it at the convention which was cool until the DVD froze like at the climax of the movie and then that was a little you know, whatever but aside from that it was cool and They're gonna be showing it in theaters next month. So I'm planning on going to see it then and Maybe after that maybe to start your connection. Yeah, you can go see in the theater.

Yes Why wouldn't you smart it is a pandemic that's a good way to get away from people Yeah, yeah the saying yeah, yeah, the guy who is like the MC at the show he kept on making the same joke saying like You cannot record anything on these screens because you're gonna be seeing footage that no one else is saying There are people who are watching and if they catch you recording on these screens They're gonna take you into another room and make you watch the first 10 minutes of the motion picture on repeat for the next 24 hours He made that joke like four times. That is a bummer Yeah, yeah, especially since they actually showed to start tracking motion picture at the show But that was not the worst thing that he said at the convention So, you know, all right. So that was it. That was it We're back on track.

We'll be back with episode three of lower decks at some point in the near future until then max where can people find you on the internet? Basically nowhere right now because I'm not really using Twitter anymore until I finish my book So once that's done then I will be back on Twitter, but that's probably a few weeks from it Like are you reading a book or writing a book? I'm finishing writing a novel. Okay.

All right. What's about? It's about time travel, baby Wouldn't have expected anything less. So that's cool.

All right. Well, that'll be cool Yeah All right exciting stuff, but yeah, I'm not online anywhere. You like my Twitter handle is j my single I'm not gonna be on it Okay, well you can find me on Twitter in letterbox that mumbles 3k you can also find me on our website film damage pod calm doing the show So yeah That's pretty much it until next time Safety protocols off
