Stargate Changed What Ra Was. Twice.
from Lore Reloaded Hosted by Lore Reloaded
Stargate Ra origin Stargate's Ra is one of sci-fi's great villains, but the Ra in the 1994 movie is not the only version of him. I went back to the cave wall Daniel Jackson reads on Abydos and followed Ra through every version of Stargate, in the order each one was written. First there's the Ra in Dean Devlin and Roland Emmerich's 1993 shooting script, a draft most Stargate fans have never read. Then there's the Ra the movie actually put on screen. Same cave, same wall, and Devlin himself has said on the record that they are not the same character. Then Stargate SG-1 picks the story up in Children of the Gods, and Hammond, Carter, Daniel and Teal'c have to explain how a dead god keeps coming through the gate. Watch how the series handles Ra, from the briefing room to P3X-888, and tell me which version of the villain you would have picked.
