Start Keeping Promises To Yourself

from The YLF Experience Podcast Hosted by Daryl Perry

In tonight’s episode, I have a simple challenge for you heading into the weekend. Keep one promise to yourself. But I don’t want this to be just any promise. I want you to think about one of the big things in your life. The thing you’ve been avoiding. The thing you’re afraid to take the first step toward. The thing you know you need to start doing, or maybe the thing you know you need to stop doing. Then make one small promise to yourself around that thing. It doesn’t have to be something you do all weekend. It might be something you do for one day. It might be one action. It might be choosing not to do something once. Make the promise as small as you need to make it, but make it about something that matters. Keeping promises to ourselves can sound simple until we get into the areas of our lives where change feels uncomfortable, scary, or overwhelming. That’s why the size of the action isn’t what matters here. The area you’re taking action in is what makes this a big step. And if you don't keep the promise? You haven't failed. Now you have a point of reference. You have something you can observe, learn from, and use to figure out your next step. So that’s your challenge this weekend. Find the thing. Make the promise. Keep the promise. Start as small as you need to, and see what happens when you take that first step.
