Jerusalem was under siege. They were not going to be able to hold out for much longer. It was just a matter of time before the Babylonian army was walking down their streets and knocking on their doors. What do we do when we are facing impending hardship and doom? One person sold everything they had including their property rights for cheap. Property rights in that society represented their legacy. They gave up their family’s entire future legacy to get through the difficulties of the moment. The other person, facing the same situation, decided to take a longer view. Trouble doesn’t last always. One day they would be able to build again. They purchased the properties rights for cheap. Even as the world around them was literally on fire, they were building their future legacy. No doubt, things are hard now. Nevertheless, now is also the time we start building our legacies.
