Okay, we're gonna try this again take I don't know how many times to take people keep interrupting me and and my levels don't seem right I gotta get my levels are my levels are all my levels are perfect now. This is good. We're gonna start the podcast. How exciting is that?

Well, hi everybody. Well, welcome to this edition of the daily grateful. My name is Michael Gross, and I read a book several years ago change my life. What was the book?

Well, I've read a lot of books that have changed my life But one book that just really you know it got me it is so good, and it is written by Mel Robbins It's called the five-second rule transform your life working confidence with everyday courage By the way, Mel Robbins is a motivational speaker a former attorney I think if you're an attorney aren't you always an attorney isn't it kind of like being Catholic once your Catholic? You're always Catholic you know, I haven't been to a Catholic church since mom died 22 years ago But I was Catholic school and sister board and I know is looking at me. I guess I'm Catholic, but anyway She came up with this little thing if you if you're sitting out in the backyard On a porch swing or you know playing with your grandkids or you're taking a walk or you're doing something fun You know what you know, and you come up with an idea an idea of just pops into your brain It's just pops into your brain. You know, I have a great idea that would be a great idea is my son Kyle would say when we would see Just something and she has this little philosophy and it's called the five-second rule in other words You've got five seconds to physically get off your butt and do something to make this idea start to happen now It could be as simple as sitting down with the yellow pad Which I do all the time and writing things out and and you know Just doing that or it could be making a phone call to somebody who you need their advice on this Hey, but anyway, you got five four three two one action Go do something and start and if you do that you have an excellent chance of pulling something off It is just one of those things you just five or three two one and this is what I you get up You have to physically get up and go do something you make this whatever you come up with Start to happen.

It could be you decided that you want to write a book about Gardening or you want to record a motivational podcast or you want to teach a class on Daffodils or you want to teach a class on proper ways to put a computer together You come up with this idea. I got a really good idea on how to do your own computer repair I don't have that idea by the way, but I said here I said I have a really good idea how to teach people how to do their own computer repair You got to get up off. You see you got to get up from whatever you're doing within five seconds And you've got to do something to start putting that together And what I have learned in my life where I've accomplished a few things I have I have pulled off a few things in my life. I've you know, I've made some money.

I've I have birthed five children And four boys and one daughter every gray here on my head came from my daughter But you know you have all that You do little tiny things are all you need you don't need motivation to start You need just a little bit of focus take five minutes and focus it on a goal And I don't I hate the term goal but take five minutes and put it towards the idea that you have Okay, grab your yellow pad. I love yellow pads and grab your yellow pad and you write down You know take five minutes and write down An encapsulation of what you want to do That's how you do this little tiny movement to do this I became a nationally syndicated radio host By doing tiny little things and putting myself in the position of having people come to me That's what I did And it's amazing little tiny things You write one sentence towards your future You take that that yellow pad and you write One journal line one sentence clarifies your thinking and it kind of keeps your idea alive And little tiny steps you would not believe how little tiny steps Will just build on things and make things better and make things start working My sink that clogged up yesterday My sink that totally and I did not know what to do I mean and I did know what to do because I have unclogged sinks for years for years and years and years But it's been a long time since I did that and I just kind of put it out of my mind because I had a very busy day today I had meetings to go to I had to go buy some stuff I had things I had to do So, you know I I had little things that I needed to accomplish today And I did all of those things and then I came home and I That I need a nap and I laid down a little bit and then all of a sudden I was darn it the sink And I took like a minute to realize okay Do I remember do I have metal pipes underneath my sink? Where are they PVC? I don't go under my sink much I don't remember these things on this house for 20 years I have installed PVC piping underneath a sink on more than one occasion More than one if you're but if it's a metal need a pipe wrench you need tools you need all kinds of stuff But if it's PVC you need your hands So I said, hi we'll do this I got up walked right out into the kitchen and I looked underneath there and my my son and his girlfriend They come over and we help because you know they can bend over a lot easier I said, yeah, I'll get it.

You see that right there. You see that right there That's called the p-trap and all you got to do is we I reached underneath there with my hands And I started you know righty tighty lefty loosey They're taking it off and Adrian put on gloves. Let me put on gloves So she puts on gloves and she's doing all of this and next thing I know the thing dropped down She put a one of my grandchildren's Toy boxes underneath a plastic toy box that they used to keep legos in It was out in the laundry rooms and she got that and stuck it under there to catch the water And whoa Thing drops down and all this gooping crap comes flying out and a knife was in the in the drain No, I'm still trying to figure out how the hell I knife got in the drain. I have no idea how the knife got in the drain Totally and you know, it's crazy But there was a knife in there and then there was other stuff in here and plugged it all out and then done I took the little p-trap outside stuck a hose in it ran it through it and went back in there You know tiny step Plumbing problem fixed nothing to it.

Nothing to it, but to do it and then it's all done And it's fine Because you know, I while I was out doing all the stuff I had to do today I was thinking about this damn thing and I'm saying if that's metal I'm gonna have to bring a plumber in here because I just you know I just I can't get down on my hands and ease with pipe wrenches and all of this other stuff And I remember at the other house that I used to have before this house It had all metal and it had leaks and it had rust and it had all kinds of goopy crap in there And I just took the pipe wrench and I just pulled it all out of there Just pulled the whole damn thing out and replaced everything with PVC all by hand. It was easy That was like 25 years ago And so I just made it a small little goal take the p-trap off and he fixed everything and it did He'll try to figure out how to do this Learn by doing one tiny little thing. Okay, read a paragraph or two And now we all have the University of YouTube that we can watch if you want to do something And I do that on occasion And you know, sometimes it's good sometimes it's bad sometimes it's exactly what you need Sometimes it's not But you know, you take one small step, remove one small obstacle You reach out to one person who might know something that you don't I had a gentleman call me tonight from north florida and we talked we had about a 20-minute conversation About about the certification pesticide certification. I used to teach pesticide certification We had one, you know, he took this the time he took the time to reach out and we had a wonderful conversation I think we're going to become fast friends I own some real estate up by him And I'm gonna get there to visit my real estate and I'm gonna go visit him And you know, this is what you do Keep one promise to yourself if that's here's what I need to I get up in the morning And I spend 15 20 30 minutes writing Okay, I need to get up in the morning and drink some water and spend 15 20 30 minutes walking That's what I need to do instead of doing the writing then I can come back and do the writing But you know, I need to take that one step.

I need to get up walk my ass outside walk around my cul-de-sac Maybe walk around my cul-de-sac twice And if you want to if you want everything to be really good you want to end each day with a win You name one thing that you're grateful for for the day Now it's the end of the day now as I'm recording this for broadcast on thursday And uh What one thing that I do today that was correct? Well Got rid of that clog in this thing a care of that. That's one little thing I went to a meeting today and Learned something really cool that I did not know about electric cars And thought I knew a lot about electric cars, but I weren't I like this meeting today. I learned one thing that I didn't know so, you know, that's a that's a Thing to be grateful for and it's a win.

So you take one win and you go And you work with it And then you start all over again the next day And tomorrow morning, I'm gonna get up and I'm probably going to write for a little bit instead of taking that walk But who knows? You know what else I got? I got this camera here that I got it's an wardrobe camera It's a video camera. It's a vlogging camera.

I've had it now for months And it's very technical, but once you learn how to do it It's very easy And I've got a microphone a flip-on microphone that goes with it I need to spend a good half hour with this tomorrow learning how to use it and then I'm going to start vlogging How's that? Oh, we'll see you tomorrow
