Many students are interested in open source but don’t know where to begin. As a first-year student who is currently starting my journey into open source, I understand the confusion and hesitation beginners face. In this talk, I will present a clear roadmap for getting started with open source, including understanding GitHub, finding beginner-friendly issues, and making the first contribution. I will also share common challenges beginners face and how to overcome them. This session is aimed at students who are at the very beginning of their journey and want a simple, practical starting point to enter the open-source ecosystem. Attendees will leave with a clear, actionable roadmap to start contributing to open source immediately.
