State Capture Commission

from African Dialogue · host Channel Africa

The State capture commission of enquiry will have its hands full when it resumes its work this year. It is still to hear testimonies of prominent people in the country such as President Cyril Ramaphosa who was deputy president of the country during Jacob Zuma’s tenure which is the same period where state looting is alleged to have taken place for a number of years. Meanwhile judgment in the Constitutional Court application for former President Jacob Zuma to comply with the summons directing him to appear before the State Capture Commission has been reserved. The application also sought an order declaring Zuma’s walkout unlawful and in breach of the commission’s Act. Sticking to his guns, the former president did not show up at the Constitutional Court either to respond or oppose arguments by the commission’s legal team. To take the conversation further as we close off the month we talk to: • Professor Susan Booysen is a political analyst • Levy Ndou is a political analyst
