State of the Nations Address

Every January the world stops to hear a State of the Union Address, but Psalm 2 is something greater: God's own State of the Nations Address, and He is not seeking our approval of it. In it we hear four voices in turn: the nations raging against God's rule, the Father answering from a throne He has never left, the Son declaring the decree that made Him King, and the Spirit extending a summons that is mercy wearing the clothes of a warning. This sermon walks from the conspiracy to the laughter of heaven to the coronation to the one question that remains: what do you do with a King you cannot outrun and cannot overthrow? The answer is the sentence the whole psalm was written to give you: there is no refuge from the Son; there is only refuge in the Son.
