South Africa’s President Cyril Ramaphosa gave his state of the nation address in parliament on Thursday. Among the issues Ramaphosa addressed were the country’s embattled state-owned entities (SOEs), such as Eskom and South African Airways (SAA), and unemployment. Ramaphosa announced that financially viable municipalities can now procure their own electricity from independent power producers.
