We develop new habits of thought and speech. We gain wisdom, insight, understanding, and self discipline. What we don’t want to gain is arrogance. Even as we celebrate how far we’ve come, we always want to be aware of how far we have yet to go. Jesus modeled this type of genuine humility. Once when addressed as “good teach”, Jesus replied, “Why do you call me good? No one is good—except God alone.” (Luke 18:19) Jesus was humble. Without humility, we might be tempted to look down on others with contempt. Without humility, we might be tempted to sit in judgment on others. We might lack the compassion we need to lift others up. Without self awareness and humility we are truly in danger of falling. I’m Horace McMillon. This is 60 Seconds of Hope.
