Stephen Kolek Steps Up for Royals

Stephen Kolek has emerged as Kansas City’s unexpected ace, delivering a seven-inning shutout against Houston to spark a 4-0 Royals win. With key pitchers sidelined, Kolek’s consistency—now boasting a 2.68 ERA—is proving vital, keeping the bullpen rested while mixing pitches to stay ahead of hitters. Though Houston scratched out a few hits, Kolek’s command and two double plays kept them scoreless. The offense backed him up with Maikel Garcia’s three RBIs and Bobby Witt Jr.’s birthday blast, but this win belongs to Kolek—proving the Royals still have a shot when their unlikely hero takes the mound.
