Stepping out stepping in week 4, Seeing with the eyes of Jesus, Matthew 9.37-38

Have you ever not been able to see? Or maybe you couldn’t see clearly? It’s important to be able to see clearly, isn’t it? If we are to make disciples the way Jesus wants us to, we need to be able to see the world the way Jesus sees the world—we need to develop the eyes of Jesus.‌‌ Sometimes we get so that we see the world a little bit skewed. Just like we talked about last week, we may start to see things differently than Jesus did, or perhaps we even miss things that Jesus wouldn’t have missed. We struggle to see people. Or maybe we are so busy with our own life and our own agenda that we might be blurred to some of the things God wants us to do—like make disciples. It’s entirely possible that there are people sitting here today who have been actively involved in church for a very long time and have never made another follower of Jesus. And if we are to make disciples as God intended, we need to have a shift in how we view the world—we need to see clearly the way Jesus saw. And so as we come to our text today, it’s all about helping us develop the viewpoint that Jesus had as he saw the multitudes, was moved with compassion, and then presented himself as the shepherd for shepherd-less people. And so, here’s the takeaway for you today:‌‌ if we are to make disciples, we need to see the world with the eyes of Jesus
