Steve Pikiell Battles Cancer While Coaching | Rutgers Basketball News

Rutgers men’s basketball coach Steve Pikiell has been diagnosed with cancer, but he’s staying strong — and on the job. After undergoing successful surgery, Pikiell is now focused on treatment while remaining deeply involved with his team, trusting associate head coach Brandin Knight and the players to carry the load. Despite the challenge, he plans to stay active through the season, honoring his decade-long tenure that brought Rutgers back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances in 2021 and 2022. At 59, Pikiell remains committed to his team and his contract through 2030-31, proving his resilience both on and off the court.
