STEVE REYNOLDS: THE AUDIENCE WILL KNOW IF YOU ARE FAKING IT

Steve Reynolds is many things, just don't call him a "consultant." He is a Talent Coach who works with radio shows that are looking for support to level up their show, work on their rapport and communication and learn about storytelling and connecting to their audience authentically. Steve has been a mentor and friend of mine for over 18 years. I met Steve when I pivoted from live TV to live radio in Atlanta as the Producer for the Steve & Vikki Morning show, a heritage show that had been on for 17 years and needed a younger influence (me at the time) on their content. He then suggested Mojo from Mojo in the Morning hire me in Detroit for his show on iHeartRadio and the rest is history. So where are we headed as creators - whether we are radio hosts, content creators, or TV talent? As Lori Lewis says, "unpolished is the new polished." As I work through my own willingness to be vulnerable as a creator and show all sides of me and my life, this conversation was really important to me. From handling imposter syndrome to allowing ourselves to being truly authentic, regardless of where we are, our audiences can feel when we are not being genuine. Also appreciating living in the moment has been hard for me. As a Producer, my whole life has been dedicated to creating the next best thing - whether a bit, a story, a guest or an event, my brain is never enjoying the fruits of my labor, it's always thinking how I could be better, do better and make the next thing even greater.
