Together, they built a life rooted in the love of the orchard. Jim, who passed away in January 2025 at the age of 96, left behind a lasting agricultural legacy. Remarkably, Steve's mother is still living—and also 96 years old.Today, Steve continues to operate orchards in the Chelan area, growing premium varieties of apples and pears. He reflects on how the apple industry has evolved over the years, and how modern regulations and policies have created increasing challenges for local farmers trying to stay afloat.But Steve’s story isn’t just about farming.
