Steveland Swatkins: CC#159 Soulfully positive and funky

Hello sweltering Summer fans, it’s nice and cool in the cupping room here at World Cup Coffee and Tea at NW 18th & Glisan. I’m Tom D’Antoni, your genial host. You know, music today is so diverse, it’s hard to tell which kind is more popular than another. Used to be Rock, used to be Indie, but today due to the Soul Music revival of the past few years, you can find just as much funky music and you can any other kind. One of the leaders in that category is here with me. It’s keyboardist, singer, composer Steveland Swatkins. I have just learned that I should call him Steve, and I will. He’s very busy with his own band, Swatkins and the Positive Agenda, with lots of gigs with others local and national…he just got back from playing with the great George Porter Jr. His partner is Moorea Masa and they share in each others’ careers. Both of their bands will be appearing at the Aladdin Theater on Saturday, August 25. He’s busy, he’s also genial. Here he is.
