Stone (1974) — "No cops."
from The Kulturecast · host Weirding Way Media
It's that time of year again, when we hand the programming reins to The Projection Booth's Mike White for the second annual Mike White March. This year is all Ozploitation, celebrating the best exploitation films Australia has to offer, and we kick things off with Stone. Directed by and co-starring Sandy Harbutt, this biker film was a precursor to the more popular-stateside Mad Max, following Ken Shorter as Stone, an undercover cop who joins the Grave Diggers biker gang to find out who is killing its members one by one. It's a novel premise that ultimately falls flat, failing to build on its initially exciting idea. We talk about the film, its lasting influence on American and Australian cinema, and the always fantastic Hugh Keays-Byrne. The Projection Booth's Mike White joins Chris Stachiw, the Doctor of Podcasting, to talk Stone, Hugh Keays-Byrne, Ozploitation, and so much more.
