Stones or Grace - General Preaching

In a world quick to condemn, we often find ourselves standing in a crowd holding stones. In John 8, the Pharisees brought a caught woman to Jesus, not seeking justice, but demanding condemnation. They saw someone else’s sin as vastly greater than their own, missing the heart and mind of Christ entirely. But where legalism demanded execution, Jesus demonstrated redemption, shifting the battlefield from self-righteous judgment to transforming grace. When we face the fallen, do we offer stones or grace? And if we were to fall today, would we want to receive the very measure of mercy we’ve extended to others? Grace is never earned, nor is it ever deserved. In fact, no one who thinks they deserve grace has ever truly experienced it. As believers, we need God’s grace most in two critical moments: at the hour of our salvation, and in the quiet devastation of our own falls when we desperately need restoration. In this powerful message, we explore how Jesus handled sin. He didn’t excuse it, rename it to sound acceptable, ignore it, or crush her beneath its weight. Instead, He offered both truth and grace, fulfilling Habakkuk’s ancient cry: "In wrath, remember mercy." Condemnation and shunning are not the calling of the Church. Christ’s way is never to drive sinners to despair, but to bring them to repentance.
