Stop Chasing Willpower And Start Seeking A New Heart
from Field Notes: 5 Day Devo · host Mission Sent
Trying harder can look spiritual, but it can also trap us on a nonstop treadmill. We talk through the difference between behavior modification and the kind of deep transformation the Bible calls a new heart, anchored in Ezekiel 36:26. When our Christian walk becomes mostly about tracking sin, our focus shrinks to what we do and don’t do, and discipleship starts to feel like pressure, guilt, and willpower management. We get honest about why that approach eventually breaks. Behavior modification only lasts as long as we feel strong enough, and when exhaustion hits, the same old patterns rush back and we label it “backsliding.” Instead of treating that as proof you are hopeless, we frame it as a warning sign that we are trying to manufacture righteousness under our own power. Jesus does not show up to hand us a little extra grit. He changes us from the inside out, and over time he reshapes our desires so obedience becomes fruit, not forced performance. We also share a practical challenge you can do today: 15 minutes of prayer without asking for a single thing, just praising Jesus for who he is and what he has done. Then we put that transformed heart into motion by sending one faith-based resource to encourage someone in their walk. If this helped you, subscribe, share the episode with a friend, and leave a review so more people can find daily discipleship that actually lasts.
