Stop the Spread - Chronic Wasting Disease with Cait Nelson

from Talk Is Sheep · host Kyle Stelter and Greg Rensmaag

We welcome Cait Nelson, Wildlife Health Biologist for Fish and Wildlife Branch, BC Ministry of Water, Land and Resource Stewardship to the podcast. Cait's area of expertise is Chronic Wasting Disease and she needs our help.Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD) is a fatal infection that affects species in the deer family (cervids) such as mule deer, white-tailed deer, elk, moose and caribou. Although CWD has not yet been detected in B.C., it has continued to spread in almost all affected jurisdictions despite mitigation and management efforts. In order to prevent CWD in B.C.’s cervid populations it requires a collaborative, coordinated and rapid response. There are some relatively simple things that you can do to help Cait and help keep BC CWD disease free.
