Stop Trying to Feel Better

from The Job · host Jonny Bevan - The Police Burnout Coach

In this episode I talk about the dangers of constantly wanting to feel better. Most people's pain comes from the fact that they are fighting the way they are feeling in a given moment. Because of how the human brain is wired we cannot escape the fact that we will experience negative emotions. The problem is, is that we have been conditioned not to experience negative emotions and then we try and move ourselves out of it which normally causes more negativity. The author of 'The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F%@k', Mark Manson said it perfectly when he said "The desire for a more positive experience is itself a negative experience and paradoxically, the acceptance of one's negative experience is itself a positive experience." Instead of constantly trying to make ourselves and others feel better we should be teaching ourselves and others how to feel.Have a listen and see what you think.Jonny
