Stop what you are doing

from The Daily 5 · host Diego Castano

Today's episode is a challenge. I challenge you to not just ask hard questions of God but to take the time to listen for an answer. A question is not a question if you don’t listen for an answer. Many people all over the world have not had their questions about God answered because they have not taken the time to listen.

Hi, this is Pastor Diego. Welcome to the daily five. Thank you for joining us today. This podcast is designed to give you a short daily Five-minute word of encouragement to inspire you to think and act on God's word.

Hey everyone. Welcome to today's episode Today's episode is called stop to listen, and it's gonna be based on Psalm chapter 46 verse 10 Which says be still and know that I am God. I'm gonna focus on that part, but I want to be the rest of it I will be honored by every nation. I will be honored throughout the world But I want to focus on that be still and know that I am God This Psalm is a Psalm appraised for a God that has shown up in the life of this Psalmist and the entire nation the main thought of this Psalm and the central idea and it is that no matter what happens on the earth the people of God are safe So be still is used in the sense of not making an effort It expresses the idea of leaving things up to God when you're still you find yourself in a place with no anxiety Calm and in a trustful state of mind So I want to ask you what's your personal translation of this verse of be still and know that I am God Because we can either be still and know that God is God or we can stay busy and keep wondering if we can do enough to take the place of God The path to knowing there is a God is being still enough to find out Because when I'm running my world and I'm running things and I'm in charge making all the decisions and calling all the shots I am at the center of my own universe And sometimes I play God so often that I forget that I'm not God.

Does that sound familiar, but the question is why? Why should I be still it's because stillness allows me to remove myself from the center of my own world It reminds me that I should want to be like God, but I don't want to be God Peter Kriefed in his book Christianity for modern pagans says we want to complexify our lives We don't have to we want to we want to we want to be harried and hassled and busy Unconsciously we want the very things we complain about for if we had leisure We would look at ourselves and listen to our hearts and see the great gaping hole in our heart and be terrified because that hole is so big That nothing but God can feel it in other words We stay so busy sometimes to avoid looking deep into our hearts and seeing that there's something missing when I'm busy playing God I ignore God. I don't ask questions of God or about God I don't listen for his response because I'm not expecting one I'm expecting his cooperation and his blessings with my desires in the direction that I want to take my life This is why extremely capable busy modern people dismiss the concept of God. They never stop to listen They ask hard questions of God, but rarely ever give God the chance to answer a Question is not a question if people don't listen for an answer, right?

So the hard questions people ask of God sometimes are rhetorical questions They think they know the answer to already instead of making assumptions about God Why don't we try being still in listening to God? Why don't we give God an opportunity to speak and answer our questions? You can come to know more about God than you ever thought if you would just slow down and give him the opportunity to respond Doing this will deepen your knowledge and it will deepen your faith But to do this we must be still our stillness gives God a chance to reveal his heart to us If I refuse to be still I'm left hungry wounded angry or stuck in doubt that God even exists If I can't be still I miss out on the very ways God wants to demonstrate his own love and character to me be still and know It's simultaneously a challenge an invitation a promise and it's even a dare I dare you to take time to be still and hear what God has to say. See you tomorrow
