Storm on the Water
from The Sportsman's Light · host Patrick
August storms come fast on the water. A bluebird afternoon turns black in twenty minutes; the wind stacks up whitecaps, and every boat runs for the ramp. Any seasoned angler has felt that particular knot in the gut — caught in open water with weather coming and no way to outrun it.The disciples — several of them commercial fishermen who knew that lake — thought they were dying. And Jesus was asleep in the stern. Their panicked question is one every man has prayed in some form: don't You care? His answer was three words to the storm — 'Quiet! Be still!' — and dead calm. Here is what the story teaches: the presence of a storm does not mean the absence of Jesus. He was in the boat the whole time. Whatever is blowing up in your life right now — finances, health, family — He is not asleep to your need, and the wind still knows His voice. Ride it out with Him in the boat.Prayer:Jesus, when the storms blow up fast in my life, remind me that You are in the boat. You are never careless with me, even when heaven seems quiet.Speak Your peace over the wind and waves I'm facing right now. And until the calm comes, keep my eyes on You instead of the water. Amen.Challenge:Name the storm you're currently in — or the one you can see building on the horizon. Read Mark 4:35-41 slowly, then pray specifically: 'Jesus, You're in this boat with me.' Repeat it every time the wind picks up this week.
