Story #11: Karrie - From Munchausen Syndrome by Proxy in Childhood & Reckoning With Suicide to a Life Worth Living

In today's episode, Karrie tells her addiction recovery story. Her life began as a victim of Munchausen Syndrome by Proxy -  her stepmother created fake health problems on her behalf which resulted in unnecessary medications and surgeries. Much of the time she was locked in her room. She later went to juvie, a shelter, and the foster care system. When she found alcohol, she experienced a "hallelujah moment," and began drinking as fast and as much as she could. Soon, she burned through all her friend's couches and was homeless while living in her car in a parking lot. Eventually her drinking spiraled her mental health so far out of control that she attempted suicide and was put on an involuntary psychiatric hold. After that, she decided to try something different. She jumped into recovery with both feet and has never looked back. Donate to our cause!
