Storytelling champions Song Siheng's immersive recital

Since winning the prestigious Marguerite Long Music Competition in France, Shanghai-based pianist Song Siheng has forged a distinctive path as a concert artist. On one hand, he is a frequent guest with major orchestras, performing the grand concertos of the repertoire. On the other, he is a pioneer of multimedia recitals, where the use of LED screens to enhance the listening and viewing experience has become a hallmark of his solo performances.That artistic vision reached a new peak last night with Piano Poems from the Earth, presented at the newly inaugurated PUSH Art Centre in Shanghai. This was the second night in his three-night journey to explore the boundaries of immersive concert formats.With the aid of polarised glasses, a futuristic stage design, multi-screen visuals, and off-stage soundscapes, Song performed original compositions from his two-volume My Music Diary. The recital unfolded through a sci-fi narrative set in a distant future, where humanity’s space journey is threatened by an inevitable fate—drawn toward the inescapable pull of a black hole.
