Full Transcript Bill Frady: Straight talk with Bill Frady continues on NewsTalk 98.9 WORD. Bill Frady: All right, early voting is going on. Four days from now is the election, the special election, special primary for U.S. Senate. Joining us now is one of the candidates, and that is 5th District Congressman Ralph Norman. Good afternoon, Congressman. Ralph Norman: Good afternoon, Bill. Glad to be with you. Bill Frady: Yes, sir. I got a couple of quick questions for you because I really haven't spoken to you about this since you lived to fight another day. And going into the Senate, I can sort of see you doing a little more damage in the Senate than you might have as governor. Do you concur with that particular—being a little more disruptive in there? Do you concur with that opinion? Ralph Norman: Well, not only that, when you look at where the need is, I mean, look at what the Senate—the damage the Senate is doing to the country. When you can't even pass a bill that would allow—would verify that American citizens voted in the elections, when you can't—and not just that, the America First agenda, peace through strength, making sure we're energy independent, all the things that Trump is doing. I know the ones we've sent over from the House, and America First comes to mind, we've voted on it three times, they either do away with it, don't act on it, or water it down so much that it makes no sense. So, I can do a lot more good for the country and good for South Carolina, and I will do it. It's not something that is just words with me. We've been meeting for a good while with Rick Scott and Mike Lee, and they're true conservatives. And so, we're going to make a difference, and I'll just be one more vote for change. Bill Frady: Now, whoever goes in is going to be the junior senator, and it's going to take somebody that's sort of a savvy operator to get anything done in this field. Do you see yourself as that one person that could actually make things have a little bit of impact in there as a junior senator? Ralph Norman: Well, look at what I've done in the House. I mean, I came in in 2017. I'm not an old-timer that's been there forever. We switched—we were at the forefront of making all the bills far more palatable and less expensive. We changed out the Speaker of the House. People don't realize the back—the work that it took to make some of these budgets what they are. Now, there's still way too much spending and way too much that is not good for the country, but we moved the needle to the conservative side. I will do the same thing in the Senate. And really, I don't have any reason not to. There's nothing holding me back. I don't owe anything to the Senate, I don't owe anything to lobbyists, I'm just a free agent and I'll use it. Bill Frady: Do you look—and now, I know that as soon—and you probably do too—as soon as the Democrats take over the Senate again, if that ever comes about, which I'm sure it will, they're going to do away with the filibuster. Where do you stand on that? Ralph Norman: We nuke the filibuster. We do away with it. Look, this country's at a tipping point. The Democrats, as we've seen in other states, when they say they're going to have a socialist takeover, as is happening in New York, California, they want government-run everything, they know no bounds. They will abolish the limits on the Supreme Court, they will try to make Washington a state, there's nothing they won't do for power. And the seriousness of this is something like I've never seen before. But, you know, the longest stairway starts with the first step, and I'll take that first step. Bill Frady: So, going into this, I've been looking at the stuff and everything else, looking at where various things poll, it sort of seems to me that you are holding your own on this one.
