This included Spectrum Studios, MarsStudios/Hollywood, and Hollywood Central Studios in 1984-87 where a ClareFischer album he recorded and mixed won a Grammy Award. All three LAstudios had major hit records with major artists signed to the major record labels.In 1985-1987 Arne was an Instructor at Los Angeles City College.He taught the recording studio program which included a lecture 3 days/weekand teaching the 24- track studio laboratory which included three 5-hr recordingsessions weekly. Classes were typically 25 students in size. Additionally, as the firstrecording engineer and studio owner over many years, Arne has taught hisassistant engineers to become recording engineers and producers. Many havegone on to become successful in the music, TV, and film audio mixing business.In 1987 Arne moved with his family to the San Francisco Bay Area and tookover The Plant Studios of Sausalito California in 1988. He was able to re-establishits reputation as San Francisco's premier professional recording facilityduring his 20- year ownership tenure there. Under his leadership The PlantStudios have produced over 50 #1 hits throughout the 1990s and 2000s,including megahits such as “Supernatural“ for Carlos Santana and “BeforeThese Crowded Streets” for Dave Matthews Band. Arne has also producedmany live music shows for radio, TV, and live performances. This includes theproduction of the live music shows at the Sausalito Art Festival for 20 years, andthe live radio shows “Live from the Plant on KFOG”.During his career as a recording engineer, producer, entrepreneur, and studioowner he has designed and built several successful professional recordingstudios. He has produced and/or engineered on albums for such artists asMichael Jackson, Prince, Celine Dion, Paul McCartney, Count Basie, John LeeHooker, Starship, and many others during his career in the music industry. Hehas recorded many large orchestral recordings as a recording engineer for ClaireFischer, including songs on 20 albums for Prince, among others.When Metallica recorded an album with the San Francisco Orchestra, Arne wasa supporting engineer for the recordings and mixing with Michael Kamen, themixing took place at Arne’s studio “The Plant Studios” in Sausalito. He has alsodigitally mastered albums for “The Secret Life of Plants” by Stevie Wonder, andseveral titles for Varese Sarabande Records.The bulk of his music career has been discovering and developing new artists. As the founder of Artist Development/Imagemaking, Armstrong enjoys helping people “be their best, by looking and feeling their best” in body and spirit by giving advice about skincare, makeup, grooming, overall personal appearance, presentation skills, and job readiness training, she also teaches Image Consulting at City College of San Francisco. Armstrong has worked with KKSF Radio, partnered with the Plant Recording Studio and stores like Wilkes Bashford, she has dressed artists for album covers and videos she has freelanced as a makeup artist with clients that included CBS 5 (KPIX), San Francisco’s Mayor Willie Brown, and taught makeup classes through CCSF Extended Education Program. Faz Restaurants, Marriott Marquis Hotel, Chevron, Renaissance Entrepreneurial Center, Independent Living, Brookside Hospital, and San Francisco Unified School District, and others have also benefited from Armstrong’s public relations and image consulting expertise. Working in the underserved Bayview Hunter’s Point neighborhood in San Francisco, Armstrong is the Founder of the Primed & Prepped: A Hospitality Management/Culinary Arts Mentoring and Job Training Program at the Bayview Hunters Point YMCA. The purpose of the program is to help mitigate the barriers to employment for young males and females of color. Formerly on San Francisco State University’s Hospitality Management Advisory Board, she chaired the PR Committee, she was a part of the Program Advisory Committee (PAC) with SAE Expression Media College. Armstrong has previously served as a Board of Governors with the Recording Academy, she created and co-chaired the Urban Outreach Committee of the Recording Academy (a.k.a. The Grammys) and she was an inaugural member of KQED’s Community Advisory Panel. She has volunteered with The National Alliance for Mental Illness (NAMI). Armstrong is married, resides in San Francisco, and has a passion for food, fashion, and music.
