Strange New World
from Captain’s Logs Hosted by Andrew Iver
This week’s discussion is over Star Trek: Enterprise season 1 episode 3, Strange New World Enterprise finds paradise — and paradise fights back with flowers. Thara and Elias open the log of Strange New World, in twenty-one fifty-one, when Captain Archer's crew camps overnight on their first Earth-like planet, later named Archer Four, and a storm kicks tropolisine pollen into a cave until shipmates who trust each other start seeing rock people and pointing phase pistols at their own science officer. In this episode, the hosts follow T'Pol, Trip Tucker, Ensin Travis Mayweather, Crewman Elizabeth Cutler, and Crewman Ethan Novakovich from a perfect afternoon of fresh air and insects into a night of hallucinations, a risky transporter rescue, and Doctor Phlox's antidote. Along the way they argue over human resentment of Vulcan mentorship, Archer commanding by voice — and by a well-judged lie — and T'Pol forgiving the engineer who threatened her. And Thara volunteers them both for an overnight inventory camp in the lower stacks to prove human archivists still notice more than Records' machines. Verdicts: Elias 7 out of 10 Thara 9 out of 10 Subscribe to the show, turn on notifications, share an episode with a friend, and leave a quick rating or review — it all helps the show grow.
